We’ll celebrate the July 12, 1953 Sign-On of
Channel 7’s Studios, Transmitter, and 300 foot tower on Crestline Drive
President Art Gregory will trace Channel 7’s history back to 1952
when they filed their application with the FCC, their actual sign-on
66 years ago on July 12, 1953, their co-ownership with KIDO Radio
until February 1, 1959 when they changed their call letters to KTVB,
and added a satellite station in the 1960’s, KTVR La Grande Oregon.
Harold W. Toedtemeier and Vern Moore tune-up the new 10 KW Transmitter
Art will also cover some of KTVB’s early history in the 1960’s and 1970’s,
including when the new Fairview studios were built in 1971, and when
the station celebrated 25 years on the air in 1978! We’ll also cover when
KTVB was sold to King Broadcasting in 1980, and the subsequent sale(s)
to Providence Journal, Belo, and then to Gannett now known as TEGNA.
